This printer is my second Canon printer after the first one lived for over 15 years. So far it’s performing really well, clean page prints, good color, and the scanner is pretty great. I like that they use the scanner to perform the head alignment after you get a head print out. Processing the image to make sure everything is OK insures clear and clean quality. This is not a photo printer, but the pictures are fine. If you’re looking for a true photo printer you want something with 5-6 inks, not 4 like this unit. I love the mega tank. Easy to fill, easy to see when you need more, and seems to be pretty efficient.

Drawback: setup sucks. It takes too long. The app is not so great at doing it. I resorted to using the tiny screen on the unit to do it faster. I also don’t see the purpose of the app except to sell you more stuff. Everything you need is accessible on the face of the unit.

Having owned (and disliked) numerous HP printers, and seeing this one rated highly, I thought perhaps I had found the home printer of my dreams. Not quite. Better than the HPs but still . . . . why is this so hard? Much of the time this printer quickly prints pages of sharp text and simple graphics. Love it. Much better than the HP it replaced, and the ink tanks are brilliant. SO much better than the pricy “cartridge” system that HP still uses. But then there’s the rest of the time. Like when it produces the ugliest, most washed-out photo prints I have seen since the 1990s. What’s that about? Not a deal killer for me since if a photo is important I will have it professionally printed anyway, but still. The worst part is that the WiFi is really iffy. Sometimes it works great. Other times, it barely works at all. The radio seems to be very weak. Our printer is located in the room next to the router, which is a Netgear Orbi (not a cheap one.) The printer claims to have 0% WiFi signal in that configuration. I happen to have a spare Netgear sattelite from our previous home so I set it up next to the printer. Much better. Now I have 53% WiFi signal. What a joke. But that’s enough for it to work, most of the time. Other times, Windows will claim the printer is offline when it’s not, and then five to ten minutes later the printer will slowly produce a page, a couple of lines at a time. I recently had to produce a set of 10 text PDFs, a total of 19 pages. I queued up the files and let Windows spool them. It took about 45 minutes to get them all printed. This from a cold boot of the computer and the printer and a clean print queue. The next day I went back to the printer and produced a half-dozen sheets of text as fast as the printer would print. No idea the difference so I don’t know what to “fix.” It’s just frustrating. Another day in home printer land.

I haven’t used this long enough to have a history but I was amazed how easy the setup was. Follow the online instructions and good to go in 30 minute. Scan, air print, all good. This compares to the epson wf- 3820 it replaces. Spent many hours with useless tecksupport and could never get it to work. I like the idea of the ink tanks…. Lots of ink provided.

I love the look and the functionality of this printer. It was well worth the price tag, the ink install was very easy and mess free. Print quality is too notch for the things I need it for (I’m a teacher, so lots of classroom items that I want in color but can’t print at school). My ONLY problem is that the software doesn’t allow me to do a continuous scan easily. There’s a lot of steps in order to scan a multi page document and it gets a little tedious.
Mostly just a really good printer for a relatively affordable price.

Very easy to set up. I like the wake up when data is sent to the printer feature. Very easy to fill the ink chambers.
The only draw back is the location and size of the screen.
Prints great quality photos for home use.

The only reason I gave this a 4 was because the display is very hard to see. Very small and not well lite. Also, not a fan of the fact that no matter what setting you use it will time out after a certain time, which if I want to print from another device from another room, I have to get up and go turn it onl

This is probably my favorite printer that I’ve ever purchased. It takes about 20 minutes or so from unboxing to setting it up. The instructions are very simple to follow, and I was up and running shortly after that. The print quality is excellent as you might expect from Canon, and the best part is the ink refills aren’t going to set you back $100 like some of the cheaper printers out there you can buy. You get what you pay for, so it was well worth it to invest more for a quality product like this. Always did like Canon, still do.

Sharp, bright pictures- much better than the HP I had. The smart app is easy and I like the ink wells

My printer, about 5 years old, died, so I needed a new one. A trip to my favorite computer store turned up the fact that they sold only commercial-type printers and the 4-digit price included installation.
Well, that seemed like overkill for someone who only prints maybe 15 pages a year, but they are important pages, mainly tax documents. I ordered this printer. It was reasonably priced and had one feature I wanted that my old printer didn’t have: WIFI communication. It appeared at my door promptly.
Two hours of struggle and I was unable to get my computer to recognize it. So, I called customer support. It took some effort to get connected to a human but the agent helped me set it up. The process was far too complicated, taking a third hour for a process I’d been doing in minutes on previous printers, but I do now have the ability to print from my smartphone as well as my computer, and no longer need a data cable. This printer can also scan, but I haven’t even tried to access this feature after having such a hard time getting it to just print.
There’s also an extra step to get to the HP print menu rather than just taking the default from software on my computer, so on the whole I would rather have a dedicated printer working only with my desktop computer if that would allow automatic printing where you just select what pages you want. So, I give this printer a 4 rather than a 5.
Loading the ink cartridges is also not as easy as it should be. The print head was hidden all the way on one side and I had to push a button on the printer to center it so the ink could be loaded. There’s an automatic ink resupply option but it has already sent me another ink reservoir after I’ve printed exactly 4 pages. HP used to be the top name in printers, but maybe no longer?

I bought a new MacBook Air and this printer which I thought would be easy to set up.

Initially I tried to set up on my computer. BIG MISTAKE. I could not connect the printer from my computer and after many failed attempts I called the HP help desk 1-888 number. It was noisy and the connection was bad so the advisor called me back on his cell phone. RED FLAG! He told me the printer was not compatible with my new MacBook Air operating system (Ventura 13.5) and transferred to an “Amazon rep” for a return and replacement product. When a few more red flags went up and the rep wanted my bank account information, I questioned the rep and he ended the call; it clearly was a scam. So beware.

Upon further research, I saw that they recommended you set up on a mobile device. I was dubious, but easily went through that process and it worked! Apparently you have to set up an HP account for the setup to work and I did sign up for the 6-month free ink trial. Will see how that works.

In any event, the printer works from my cell phone and new MacBook Air. It is a bit slow but the quality is good.

Guess I’ll keep it and see how it goes.
