    really nice and good-looking knife

I love it and use it for my grill days on sunday

While the fit and finish were up to Artisan Cutlery standards, the blade was not centered. I was very disappointed that I had to partially disassemble and center the blade on a brand new knife.

Artisan has the formula just right for me. Excellent micarta, beautiful titanium back spacer, titanium pivot collar, and titanium pocket clip on a fantastic design. The price point is terrific… I prefer all the niceties with a premium knife but in a package offering a solid steel choice for the blade instead of super steel that drives the cost super high.

This knife is beautiful. It’s VERY comfortable in the hand, and the texture on the scales is confidence inducing (grippy). The blade is large for the size of the handle – meaning that only the middle of the belly of the blade contacts the surface of a table when in my fist. The pivot opening action if smooth, but the lock can engage less than full lock under soft opening (not a huge safety issue for me – I generally snap the blade into locked open position anyway because it sounds nice). The belt clip is machined vs formed – means it is very stiff and will require some breaking-in. Very nice knife – blade thickness feels like it will stand up to many years of use.

As a nearly lifelong knife collector with a focus on USA made knives I had to get this when I saw it.

The blade is made from AR-RPM9 (kind of new to the knife world) steel which is formed from a powder of 0.9% Carbon, 18% Chromium, 1.0% Molybdenum, 0.45% Manganese, 0.1% Vanadium, 0.30% Cobalt, 0.2-0.8% Silicon, less than 0.40% Nickle, and less than 0.05% Rare Earth. It’s easily affordable, doesn’t stain/rust easily and holds an edge well. Be sure to keep a light coat of oil on the blade. Same for almost every blade steel.

It is similar to the variety of Crucible CPM steels that so many of the top knife makers use. CPM is also made from a powder with (obviously) different compounds for different type of use blades. They mix exact amounts of various elements into a powder so the formula can be replacated with absolute consistancy.

On to this USA made knife. This is way nicer than I thought it would be for this price. It uses a liner lock and when opened up there is no blade wobble, has a solid lockup and the pivot pin seems very solid and smooth. The scales (handle material) is made from Mircata in spite of them mis-spelling it the second time they use the word (Micata) in paragraph 2. The thumb hole in the blade is fairly large and makes it easy to open and I very much like the effort that went into making the blade shape symetrical and well finished. Kudos to ARTISANCUTLERY for paying such good attention to the details. The ‘false’ edge on top of the blade is a nice touch.

Sooo … it’s pretty easy to see I like this knife. I can’t find a single thing to complain about. That, in and of itself, is unusual. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend this knife to anyone – especially those looking for a good knife on a budget.

Affordable D2 tool steel is widely used in many good fixed blade and heavy folding knives. D2 steel is characterized by high hardness (HRC 59-61) and good toughness (chip and crack resistance), but D2 steel corrodes and it is difficult to sharpen. ARTISANCUTLERY’s proprietary AR-RPM9 powder steel is a high-tech stainless improvement on D2 tool steel. [Powder steel blades are cast using fine-crystal metal powders. Powder stainless steel achieves higher hardness while its finer crystalline structure achieves better toughness (chip and crack resistance) than molten cast stainless steel.] AR-RPM9 stainless steel delivers high hardness (HRC 59-61) with corrosion resistance, and its crystalline fine structure provides superior toughness (chip and crack resistance) while making the extremely hard stainless steel easier to sharpen.

The Xcellerator blade is 4″ long (the backbone extends to within 1″ of the drop point), nominally 1.5″ wide (from backbone to edge), and 0.15″ thick. The pivot rides on ceramic ball bearings; the blade opens easily two-handed using the thumb hole and locks securely with no wobble or side-play. An extremely stiff lock spring encourages two-handed closure. The blade has a stone-washed finish and a well-machined edge ready for touch-up with whetstone and strop (thumbnail drag test).

The Micarta handle panels are friction textured, not cold, and are water- and wear-resistant. The 5″ long handle is well-indented for large fingers, and the blade backbone is gimped for a thumb rest. A titanium deep carry clip is set into the handle for right-hand pocket carry. The package includes a presentation cloth bag.

This premium quality knife bears a premium cost. The Xcellerator is an EDC folding knife; usually a blade this large is found only on fixed blade knives. Held in the hand, ARTISANCUTLERY’s Xcellerator elicits the thought “Wow, that’s a big blade!” The Xcellerator is not a flipper but its large blade makes it somewhat unique, and the stainless blade’s high-tech metallurgy makes it unique. [Larger blades are harder to forge than smaller blades, and powder steel is harder to cast than molten steel.] Knowledgeable knife guys will appreciate the Xcellerator’s premium quality.

Should make a great work knife as it is a massive blade with a liong full grip handle. I wish it had a flipper but due to the full size I get it. Deploys fie from the cut out and is not as heavy as it looks it should be. Not a balanced knife as it does have a thick sturdy blade but I do not think balance is the key here as it is utility.

Will make a solid truck knife.

This is a solid, good quality pocket knife. I wanted something similar to CKRT CEO, which I have a couple of, but with a tanto edge. Honestly this knife is build as sturdy as a CKRT and almost the same size ( slightly bigger). It opens and closes with ease and fits in my pocket on the clip perfectly. Could be a little sharper, but it still does the job! Great tool!!!

This knife is a steal at the price I paid ($13). It has tremendous quality in many different areas. The handle is very comfortable and feels nice in the hand. Perfect mid size knife with a seemingly strong and tight blade. No wiggles or hesitation to open quickly with very smooth action. The ball bearings are evident when opening the blade. The artistic inscription is fake but is also mentioned in the details and appears to be done fairly nice. Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another one to gift to someone else. Very happy purchase I don’t write many reviews but thought this knife deserved it (again for the price it’s a must).
